NOTIFICATION
(MERCHANT SHIPPING)

 

        In exercise of  the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 172, read  with clause (i) of sub-section (2) of section 101, of the Merchant Shipping  Act, 1958  (44 of 1958), the Central Government  hereby makes the following rules to amend the  Seamen (Supply  of Articles for  Personal Use) Rules,  1966, namely :-

            1.  (1) These rule may  be called the Seamen (Supply of Articles for Personal  Use)  Amendment Rules,  1976. 

    (2)  They shall come into force  on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette. 

2.  In the seamen (Supply of Articles for Personal Use) Rules, 1966, for the Schedule, the following  shall be substituted, namely :- 

                          “ The Schedule  

Scale of Supply of Personal Items to Every Seamen 

                                [ See rule (2) (1) ]

 

(a) Crockery-Cutlery.  

            (i)             One full plate                 
                  Either Procelain
(ii)
            One quarter plate or                         or Stainless Steel
                Bowl (Katori) or not less                   or equivalent
                then 3” diameter       
                          quality

            (iii)         One Mug                                         

 


(iv)
          One Teaspoon                                             stainless steel

(v)           One Table-spoon                          

(vi)          One Table knife                                    


(vii)
        One Fork                                        

  

(b) Bedding  

(i)   one Mattress

(iii)         one Pillow – standard size ( not less than 20”) 

(c)Linen  

(i)            One Pillow  Case

(ii)           Two bedsheets

(iii)         One bedspread

(iv)         Two blankets

(v)          One bath towel ( Turkish or equivalent quality of not less than 45” size). 

              (vi) One hand-towel or Napkin .

(d)  Soap per month 

(i)             3 Cakes of toilet soap

(ii)            1 lb of washing soap or detergent. 

(e)  Miscellaneous 

i)                   i) One tea strainer to be  provided in each cabin; or two aluminum kettles and one tea strainer in the Galley.

ii)                 ii) One ash tray in each cabin.

iii)                iii) One mug to be provided in each Indian style toilet.
