G.S.R. 388.---In exercise of the powers conferred
by Section 457 of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1958 (44 of 1958), the Central
Government hereby makes the following rules further to amend the Merchant
Shipping (Management for the Safe Operation of Ships) Rules, 2000.
1. (1) These rules may be called
the Merchant Shipping (Management for the Safe Operation of Ships) Amendment
Rules, 2002.
(2) They shall come
into force from the date of their publication in the Official Gazette.
2. In the Merchant
Shipping (Management for the Safe Operation of Ships) Rules 2002
(hereinafter referred to as the said rules) in rule 1 sub-rule (3) after
clause (b), following clauses shall be added, namely:-
"(c) Other cargo ships and mobile off-shore drilling units of 500
Gross Tonnage or more."
3. In the said
rules, in rule 5 after sub-rule (5), the following sub-rule shall be added,
namely :-
(5A) "A copy of the Document of Compliance should be placed on board in
order that the master of the ship, if so requested may produce it for
verification by the administration or by an organization recognized by the
Administration or for the purposes of the control referred to in regulation
1X/6.2 of the Convention.
Explanation: For the purpose of verification the copy of
the document is not required to be authenticated or certified as such."
4. In the said
rules, for the form of "Interim Safety Management Certificate, the following
form shall be substituted, namely :-
