New Delhi, the 20th February, 1997
G.S.R. 155--- In exercise of powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 74 read with section 458 of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1958, (44 of 1958), the Central Government hereby makes the following rules further to amend the Merchant Shipping (Registration of Indian Ships) Rules, 1960 namely :-
1.(1) These rules maybe called the Merchant Shipping (Registration of Indian Ships) Amendment Rules 1997,
(2) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazettee.
2. In the Merchant Shipping (Registration of Indian Ships ) Rule, 1960 ( hereinafter referred to as the said rules)-
(i) in rule I, for sub-rule (3), the following sub-rule shall be substituted, namely:-
“(3) they shall apply to every sea going Indian Ship exceeding 15 tons net which is fitted with mechanical means of propulsion:.
(ii) in rule 3, for clause (d), the following clause shall be substituted, namely :-
“(d) permission of the Director General of Shipping to register a ship is built in a shipyard other than an Indian Shipyard”
(iii) in rule 10, in clause ( C), after the words “cut-off” the words “or welded” shall be inserted
In Schedule 11, __
(a) in item I,__
(i) in clause (b), for the figures “1600”, the figures “3001” shall be substituted;
(ii) in clause (c ) for the figures “20000” the figures “20001” shall be substituted;
(b) in “Registry Form No. 16 for the “CERTFICATE OF SURVEY” and the entries relating thereto, the following shall be substituted, namely :-
